Developer Diary 16/4/2014

Shame on me!
I told myself to post often... And it's been more than a month!
I have to say it, I've been very busy! Most of all work, of course.
I was hoping to release a Demo of the Advance Doom & Destiny by now, but we are a bit late.
We have completed the first part of the game, but despite it's playability, it's still an advanced alpha :(
And we have enough team members to test it...
Right now I'm focusing on level design.
I'm crafting all the maps till the end of the game, then I'll run a monster/hero balance and for last, write the dialogues and the story.
One week was spent with me sick, ehehe, and another one was spent preparing anf going to Rome @Codemotion.
It was awesome, we had a speech on Saturnday 12. We met so many people, I've got a pair of flip flops from Microsoft and we've got a new Nokia Phone from Nokia, for free! Thanks Nokia, we love you a lot!
We also spent some time on "Galapagoats, two goats, one rope" a small party game about Goats... Ropes...and poop :)
The goal was to put the whole team on a game from start to finish, so we crafted a small games working a few days during the week. 
The game will be primary hosted during events such as conference and fair, to entertain the audience and it will be featured during the Svilupparty 2014 :)

Now I should be back to work!

Developer Diary 7/03/2014


Abbiamo deciso di deciare il weekend ad una piccola "HeartBit Interactive Jam": creare un semplice videogioco in poco tempo, 2-3 giorni massimo.
L'idea nasce dal voler portare qualcosa di particolare allo Svilupparty di Maggio e mettere all'opera tutto il team su un progetto di brevissima durata, per coinvolgerli in tutta la fase dello sviluppo di un gioco.

We decided to spend the weekend on a small "HeartBit Interactive Jam": create a simple videogame in a few days.
The idea is to bring something to the Svilupparty in May and to put the whole team on fast project that could involve them all on the develop of the whole game, from start to end :)

Developer Diary 3/3/2014

I lavori procedono ed in questo periodo le forze si sono divise nel completare il primo terzo del gioco, costituito dal tutorial ed i primi capitoli.


Abbiamo iniziato ad implementare alcune delle meccaniche nuove, principalmente legate allo sviluppo degli eroi. Ora faremo un pò di test e se funziona, andremo avanti ritoccando i poteri speciali, le sfide e le ricompense, in modo da avere sostanzialmente un parte di gioco "fatto", con contenuto e meccaniche implementate, giocabile come se si trattasse di una grossa demo!


Un pò di tempo è stato speso dietro a Steam Greenlight. I recenti successi e promozioni hanno spinto D&D nei top 20-30 giochi e speriamo con la tornata del 5 marzo (forse) di essere scelti!

L'esperienza greenlight lascia comunque aperti molti interrogativi su come vengano scelti i giochi e su come alcuni ricevano improvvisi aumenti di notorietà.
Un caso recentissimo è stato l'aumento in appena 24-36 ore della media dei voti favorevoli dei giochi nei top 50 che è aumentata di 500 voti. Se si considera che è la media, significa solo che un gruppo di giochi ha ricevuto un enorme numero di voti improvvisi, non tuttavia intaccando la media dei visitatori.

Boh, non so cosa pensare, vedremo...

Works are going fine and we are focusing on completing the first third of the game made by the tutorial and the first few chapters.

We started to implement some of the new game mechanics, most of them involve the characters develop.
Now we are doing some test then we will crunch the first special powers, challenges and rewards. Our goal is to have a third of the game ready to be played and tested, as if it were a demo or a good beta!

Some time was spent on Greenlight. Recents success and promotions pushed D&D in the top 20-30 and we hope to be chosen during the next batch the 5th march.

The Greenlight experience still puzzle me about how games are picked up and how some games manages to get huge notoriety.
Recently, in less than 36 hours, the average numbers of "yes" of the top 50 increased of 500 votes!
That means that some game(s) received huge boost in so little time! And I have no idea how...

We'll see...
